Empire Mine State Historic Park is a state-protected mine and park in the Sierra Nevada mountains in Grass Valley, California. The park is located on the site of one of the oldest, largest, and richest gold mines in California. It was active for over a hundred years, from 1850 to its closure in 1956.
With restored buildings and machinery, the former gold mine is now a historical site offering visitors hiking trails, picnic areas, horseback riding trails and lessons in California’s gold mining history. Donner Memorial State Park
