BUTTERMILK BEND TRAIL

If you’re looking for a beautiful hiking spot with stunning views and easy accessibility, look no further than Buttermilk Bend Trail. This trail is located just across the river from the Visitors Center, and winds up the river for about 1.2 miles before looping back around to the starting point.

One of the unique features of this trail is that it follows the old 1877 Caleb Cooley water ditch, making it a gently sloped and wheelchair-accessible hike. Additionally, there’s a new upper trail with two new bridges, which makes the hike a little more interesting and varied.

But what really makes this hike special is the incredible display of wildflowers during Spring. The trail is a showcase of color and beauty, with spectacular views of the river and surrounding landscape. During Spring, docents lead guided wildflower walks on Saturdays and Sundays, making it the perfect time to experience the full beauty of this area.

Even if you’re not a hiker, the Buttermilk Bend Trail is still worth a visit. The river itself is gorgeous all year round, and during Spring runoff it’s especially spectacular. Plus, Spring is also a great time for kayaking, so you can enjoy the river from a different perspective.

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a relaxing outdoor activity, the Buttermilk Bend Trail is the perfect spot. With its easy accessibility, stunning views, and seasonal wildflower displays, it’s no wonder this trail is a favorite among locals and visitors alike. So grab your comfortable shoes and a bottle of water, and get ready to experience the natural beauty of this incredible hiking spot.
