Toogood Estate Winery: Where Legacy and Innovation Converge

Step into the world of Toogood Estate Winery, where tradition and progress intertwine to create a wine destination that captures the heart of El Dorado Hills. Nestled on a picturesque 40-acre parcel of rolling foothills, Toogood Estate Winery is more than a winery; it’s a family legacy, a community treasure, and a hub of wine knowledge and expertise.

A New Chapter Begins

In December of 2019, the Toogood Estate Winery found new stewards in the Ron and Darin Mittelstaedt family of El Dorado Hills. With sons Bradley and Timothy, along with Tim’s fiancé Kayla, joining the daily operations, the family brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of skills to the winery. Daughter Haley is set to join after completing her studies in Texas. Ron and Darin, along with their family, embrace the legacy of Paul Toogood, the winery’s founder, and are committed to nurturing its growth and development.

Continuity and Innovation

One key element of Toogood’s evolution is the retention of Marco Cappelli, the talented and beloved winemaker. With his expertise, the wines that have captured the hearts of many will continue to delight. The Mittelstaedt family’s business acumen, coupled with Marco’s artistry, ensures that Toogood Estate Wines will flourish and thrive.

A Winery Born of Passion

The story of Toogood Estate Winery began in 2001 when Paul Toogood established it on a stunning 40-acre foothill parcel. The vineyard’s microclimates, perfectly tailored for hand-selected varieties, resulted in the first crush of the Toogood Estate Winery in 2002. Bottled in January 2003, the wines quickly gained recognition and appreciation. The creation of a 5000-square-foot underground wine cave marked a significant milestone in the winery’s history, providing an ideal space for production and aging.

A Journey through the Vineyards

The vineyards themselves, spanning 12 acres, embody the diversity of the region’s varietals. Zinfandel, Primitivo, Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah thrive in this terrain, showcasing the essence of the foothills in every glass. Toogood Estate Winery invites you to immerse yourself in the vines, discover their stories, and enjoy their wines.
